Mäkkelä (FIN/GER)

After months of being stopped from touring by the pandemic Finnish singer-songwriter Mäkkelä is back on the road in Europe, presenting his two new albums “Trad & Anger” and "Dog & Typewriter". The first a selection of “trad” classics and original tunes, the latter a stripped-down, reduced to the essentials collection of intense, at times even worrying, acoustic songs recorded over the past two years. "Dog & Typewriter" finally delivers what has become the artist's trademark over hundreds of live shows he played all over Europe and Canada the past years. Bridging atmospheric Folk Noir far from genre clichés with beat poetry and a live performance of scarce intensity. You may expect exceptional concerts of one of Europe's most distinct and interesting performers.

"Wild and romantic mix of American Folk, Blues, Country and Punkrock attitude [...]."
Nürnberger Nachrichten, Germany, 2022)

"This album grows on you with each listen and is a definite musos album. With definite echoes of Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen and the booze lashed, cigarette stinking romanticism of Shane MacGowan's lyrics, Mäkkelä takes a less trodden path and invites you on his journey in search for a 'Homeland'."

"[...]folk, jazz, world moves, and topical/timeless folk songs. [...] spirited intensity underneath all of these songs."

"Trad & Anger is exactly what it says on the tin. It's full of venom, concise, clear and pulls no punches, exactly how a proper folk album should sound. "
